…it’s the question on everyone’s lipids (ho ho ho)
Surprise! The answer again is: we need more evidence! To date there is insufficient evidence to support one over the other, in terms of bioavailability and improved biomarkers.
BUT a good brand fish oil typically has a higher dose of DHA and EPA than krill oil, and so if bioavailability is constant, the fish oil gives you more omega-3 per pill.
WHICH FISH OIL?
This is the most important question. A cheap fish oil is actually worse than taking no fish oil. Supplementing with farmed fish oil is akin to sucking on a mercury and lead lollipop – they become high in heavy metals. Also, farmed fish are usually fed grains and have a much lower omega-3 content. As I like to say, You Are What You Eat Eats!!
TOP 3 FISH OILS
Go for a pharmaceutical grade fish oil, as they are TGA approved. Here are the top three I recommended my clients:
1. Eagle Omega Vital Pure Omega 3 Concentrate (liquid)
2. BioCeuticals UltraClean EPA/DHA Plus
3. Metagenics MetaPure EPA/DHA
