Well, actually its a favourite exercise of many top coaches because its incredibly functional, improves overall stability and mobility, proprioception, balance, and general awesomeness.
If this is a brand new exercise for you, start with a very light dumbbell – I coach it with a water bottle! As soon as you nail the steps, you can graduate to a light dumbbell or kettlebell. Only get heavier when you feel you can perform the steps with perfect form. Film yourself doing it and watch it back to see where you can improve!
Always do it barefoot.
